Our whole school thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic field trip to the UNESCO Heritage sites on Valentia Island today, 4th June.
During our visit, we learned so much about the laying of the Transatlantic Cable and the significant role Valentia Island played as the vital point of communication between Europe and America. It was fascinating to discover how this remarkable achievement transformed global communications and placed Valentia Island at the centre of an important chapter in history.
We began our day with a visit to the museum in Knightstown, where we explored a range of interesting exhibits that brought the story of the island and the cable station to life. We then travelled to the lighthouse, where we enjoyed a delicious alfresco lunch in the beautiful lighthouse garden.
The visit also gave us the opportunity to explore the lighthouse itself and see the lightkeeper’s house, providing a wonderful insight into life at this historic coastal landmark.
The day was both educational and enjoyable, with plenty of opportunities for learning, exploration, and fun. It was a lovely way to begin the final month of school for this academic year, and we returned with many happy memories and new knowledge to share.
We would like to thank everyone who helped make this memorable trip possible.
